We welcome applications from anyone with an interest in exploring shiatsu. No prior experience is needed before embarking on one of our Foundation courses.
Students choose to study with the British School of Shiatsu-Do for a variety of reasons including the quality of our teachers and training programmes, to learn a new skill, for self-development, to learn about alternative medicine and in particular Oriental medicine. While others, having felt the benefit of receiving treatments are inspired to learn more.
The BSS-Do offers a comprehensive three-year training culminating in a practitioner diploma. In addition we offer introductory and short courses as well as regular Practise classes advanced and post graduate workshops.
Our courses are organised so that students can opt to attend a Basics Course or go on to complete the full Three Year training and our flexible timetable allows students to take breaks between levels without having to wait a whole year to continue. Students from other schools both in the UK and overseas can join our courses at a level in keeping with their previous shiatsu training.
An important part of our training is reflective practice and students’ personal development is actively encouraged through avenues such as, exercise to improve fitness, mobility and grounding, meditation, Practise classes and group work.
Class sizes are limited and supervised by one of our experienced teachers supported by class assistants to ensure close personal attention for everyone.
The content of our courses is subject to continuing revision as student and teacher feedback helps us to develop and improve the course.
Shiatsu shares much of its theory and diagnostics with acupuncture, but with the benefit for many of being non-invasive with finger pressure being used to treat acupoints rather than needles.
In addition Shiatsu works directly with the meridians also known as channels. These are the extensive network through which Ki flows and which pass through the body organs and physical structures that the meridians flow through.
The BSS-Do have developed further bodywork disciplines in the form of structural corrections using soft tissue techniques; working with the different rhythms of the body as they manifest in the tissues, fluids, organs and other structures of the body; and working with Core Energetics (The Extraordinary Vessels).
